Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, Former Miss Tourism Nigeria and ARISE News Anchor, Tragically Killed During Home Robbery

The pageant and media worlds are in mourning following the tragic loss of Somtochukwu Christelle “Sommie” Maduagwu, widely known as Sommie. The former Miss Tourism World Nigeria and ARISE News correspondent reportedly died early Monday in what appears to be a home invasion at her residence in Katampe, Abuja. Authorities have confirmed that a police investigation is underway regarding the incident.

Sommie, who was 29 at the time of her passing, was also a talented journalist, producer, and public figure. In their official statement, ARISE News described her as a bright, energetic voice who connected deeply with viewers and colleagues. She was not only a public figure, but also a legal practitioner who balanced multiple roles with professionalism and warmth.

The circumstances of her death are especially unsettling: eyewitness accounts and initial reports suggest that her home was attacked while she was present inside. Robbery appears to be the motive, though the full nature of the attack and the identities of perpetrators remain unclear as police investigations progress.

Tributes have poured in from around the country and across the media and pageantry communities. Many remember her not only for her beauty and poise on stage but also for her intellect, advocacy, and vibrant presence behind the camera. Social media users and colleagues alike have described her as a voice for many, whose absence leaves a profound void that cannot be ignored. [1]

At this moment of grief, fans and supporters are calling for transparency, justice, and swift action in the investigation. Many hope the authorities will bring the criminals to account and provide closure to Sommie’s loved ones and admirers. In the meantime, her legacy continues to resonate: a reminder of both the brilliance she embodied and the fragility of life.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her loved ones find strength in this time of profound sorrow.
